Follow the following six points of advice and make life easy for yourself and your fish!</p> <ol> <li>Continue feeding a good quality, high protein, specialist koi food diet, to promote both growth and health, whilst temperatures permit.</li> <li>Consider using an automatic feeder. This will allow the fish to be fed regularly during the day, when you are usually at work. This helps fish to maintain optimum weight and health, prior to over wintering. Feeders also have a tendency to make your fish tamer.</li> <li>Continue to test water at least weekly, to ensure water quality remains perfect, especially while feeding at heavier rates.</li> <li>Leave air blowers running continuously, until temperatures drop to 10`c/52`f.</li> <li>Cover the pond with suitable netting before the trees drop their leaves.</li> <li>Remove leaves as they fall into the pond before they begin to decay, releasing toxins into the pond water</li> <li>Clean filter with pond water (never tap water!) by mid-September, to ensure the filter bacteria has sufficient time and temperature to recover to previous levels, before cooler winter temperatures set in</li> <li>Medicate the fish with a course of parasite treatment after cleaning filter, to ensure the fish enter winter in tip top condition.</li> <li>Add filter start, to boost your filter system after completing parasite treatments.</li> <li>Add sludge remover to your pond to ensure maximum removal of organic waste and sludge occurs</li> <li>Change to winter wheatgerm feed when your water temperature drops to 10`c/52`f (End of September to mid-October) Mix summer and winter feeds for several days prior to completely changing over</li> <li>Autumn UV bulb change is now due, remember UV bulbs will light but UV rays are only emitted for 5000 hours (approximately 6 months).</li> <li>Install your heater if you intend heating your pond to either protect your fish from severe weather, or simply to stop the pond from totally freezing and trapping toxic gasses below the surface.</li> <li>Book your PERSONAL AUTUMN HOME VISIT.
